Outdoor Report (The Journal Press)Ken?s Tackle (808-1011) reported decent bass fishing in the river down to Hicks?s. Catfish were also biting well. The upper river was a bit stained at press time. Once it clears it should be good for smallmouth bass and sunfish again.

Fishing tournament trail (The Kansas City Star)The Fishing Tournament Trail will be printed every Tuesday during the fishing season. To report results, call 816-234-4319 from 7 a.m. to noon on Monday and list the date, location and sponsoring organization of the tournament and the full names and hometowns of the top two places and big-bass winners, plus their totals.

Naples Pier is the most obvious answer, but it can get crowded during the season. All of the beaches hold snook in the summer and there is some wade fishing in Estero Bay, but the best place is in the passes, especially those that are little more difficult to get to.

Learn about fly fishing, nature (The York Weekly) KITTERY and#8212; A free fly fishing class for kids ages 8-15 will take place at the Kittery Trading Post at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9. The event is being held in conjunction with the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge of Wells.
